Where Wilderness Meets LGBTQ+ Affirmation
The Queer Allyship Directory uplifts businesses that do more than make promises; they follow through. Deer Crossing Wilderness Camp is proud to be listed because inclusion is woven into every canoe launch, every pronoun button, every cabin meeting.
Pronouns in Practice
Pronouns with all introductions normalize gender diversity. Staff complete an affirming-language workshop before working with campers.
Gender-Expansive Housing
Tent area requests include an opt-in for gender-expansive spaces, and our instructors check in privately with every camper about where they sleep best.
Wellness Partnerships
We partner with queer-led clinicians for tele-support during sessions and provide staff refreshers on trauma-informed care.
Commitments to the Queer Allyship Community
- Inclusivity is a core value for us
- Camperships prioritized for LGBTQ+ campers and allies referred through the directory.
- Regular check-ins and evening circles facilitated by queer-identifying staff for campers who want additional space to process.
- Nutrition program that respects dietary needs, cultural food traditions, and safe kitchen labeling.
- Confidential parent/guardian consultations to map medication, name changes, or documentation needs before arrival.
“As a queer camper, I felt supported even before I arrived on my family’s call with the Director. The community here has been so focused on including everyone. Now as an instructor, I work extra to support our queer campers so they can see wilderness belongs to them too.”
— D.T., waterfront lead, San Rafael, California
